Siirt (Siirt -mattomme kudotaan Itä-Turkissa Siirtissä , missä niillä on pitkä historia Kurdien perinteisenä käsityönä )

Käsittelemättömässä villassa on pinnalla rasvaa, lanoliinia. Villa saattaa tuntua käteen hieman rasvaiselta villan lanollista.

Maton kuvio in tehty kampamalla ja silittämällä villan kuituja.

How Siirt Blanket Heats?

The mohair fibers used in the construction of Siirt blanket serve as a shield in cold weather with their moisture-retaining properties. It is not too difficult to predict that it would be sufficient in a normal home environment considering that it is used outdoors even in the harsh winters of Eastern Anatolia. Siirt blanket - allows you to find a warm environment even in temperatures down to 30 degrees. Because of the moisture-retaining properties of the fibers, no matter how cold the outside environment, the heat inside is maintained. It provides a long-term temperature as it locks the body temperature into the inner part.

How is Siirt Blanket Produced?

The fibers obtained from the mohair goat are used in Siirt blanket making. These fibers are obtained by shearing the goats. Angora goats are one of the most important ovine breeds in Anatolia. It is possible to obtain 1-2 kg of fiber per year from an angora goat. Goats are shed in spring or autumn. Usually a goat gives mohair once a year, but it is also the case that some species are used twice. The mohair of the broken goats is approximately 25 cm. These fibers are then divided into groups according to their color. The lint, which is separated according to color, is scanned and made flat. It is then washed and allowed to dry. Drying fibers are usually spun into yarn by women in the neighborhood using a tool called kirman. The yarns are wound on small spools. The yarns in these reels are woven by passing to a structure called shuttle. This stage is similar to classical rug weaving. The hairs on the blanket on the bench are then removed. Iron combs are used at this stage. One of the most laborious parts is the hair removal stage. Here, careful attention is paid to avoid damaging the blanket and it requires great manual labor. After the hairs are removed, the blanket is cut from the shuttle and made ready for washing. When washing, do not use any substance other than water and detergent. The forming step is also during washing. The blanket, which is wet, is given patterns by plastic combs. Patterns such as square or diamond can be seen.
